Corona Remedies: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) helps against COVID-19

Less hospital days thanks to TCM treatment

The Chinese government has assigned traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) an important role in the treatment of COVID-19 sufferers and approved three traditional formulations. The effectiveness has already been confirmed in a study.

Traditional Chinese treatments with Jinhua Qinggan granules, Lianhua Qingwen capsules and Xuebijing injections have proven to be effective support in China for COVID-19 therapy. A study in the journal "Chinese Medicine" showed that the number of days in hospital for COVID-19 sufferers who received TCM treatment could be reduced.

Effectiveness of TCM checked at COVID-19

A Chinese research team conducted a clinical study to evaluate the effectiveness of TCM in the supportive treatment of pneumonia caused by COVID-19 disease. A total of 54 COVID-19 sufferers with pneumonia were documented, who received additional treatment from traditional Chinese medicine during a hospital stay in Wuhan.

Accelerated recovery through TCM

The blood count of the participants was analyzed and a multiple linear regression analysis was carried out to determine the factors that influence the length of the hospital stay. The researchers concluded that TCM had positive clinical efficacy on COVID-19 patients, improved blood counts, and accelerated recovery.

Qingfei Paidu: A recipe that is over a thousand years old

The treatment had a particularly positive effect on the regulation of intestinal function and on maintaining the microecological balance. Chinese doctors report particularly good results when using Qingfei Paidu (QFPDD), a combination of substances that has been used in China for thousands of years.

The blood count of the participants also showed that the number of leukocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes and thrombocytes increased significantly as a result of TCM treatment. This suggests that TCM increases the body's immune system and thus supports the organism in killing COVID-19 pathogens (SARS-CoV-2).

Significant reduction in hospital stay

The duration of the hospital stay for participants with TCM treatment averaged 8.96 days. This means that the duration is significantly below the general average duration, which the Robert Koch Institute specifies with a minimum of ten days. (vb)
