Effective home remedies for high blood pressure
High blood pressure (hypertension) is a disease that should be taken seriously. Too high blood pressure puts a strain on the vascular system, accelerates the development of arteriosclerosis and is one of the risk factors for heart attack and stroke.
Hypertension has become a widespread disease. In many cases, lifestyle changes can lower blood pressure. If this is not possible, antihypertensives are prescribed, especially if the values are very high. In any case, care from a doctor is essential. Home remedies for high blood pressure are used for prevention if the values are only slightly increased, but can also be used in conjunction with conventional medical therapy.
First important step: Pay attention to the right nutrition
A conscious diet is a prerequisite for healthy blood pressure. Garlic, onions and wild garlic are known to be able to lower elevated levels somewhat - provided they are eaten regularly. The diet should be low in salt. It is best to refine the food with various herbs. Lovage and basil, for example, are among the culinary herbs that can have a positive effect on hypertension.
Fresh fruit, fiber-rich food and little animal are part of a healthy diet. Studies have shown that vegetarians are less likely to suffer from hypertension than people who often have meat and sausages on their menu. However, if you like to eat a piece of meat every now and then, you should pay attention to quality and use beef, lamb or game instead of pork.
Potassium is the antagonist of sodium and is therefore important for high blood pressure. Potassium-rich foods include spinach, fennel, broccoli, cauliflower, dried white beans and dried apricots.
Lower blood pressure with movement
Moderate exercise, preferably in the fresh air, has a positive long-term effect on blood pressure. Walking, a brisk walk, cycling or swimming - the main thing is that this is also fun. Before starting, however, the sporting activities should definitely be discussed with the treating doctor. Regular exercise strengthens the heart and circulatory system and at the same time reduces stress hormones. It is important to be consistent. However, strength training and isometric exercises are not suitable because they can lead to a sudden increase in blood pressure.
Healthy blood pressure by reducing excess weight
The reasons for high blood pressure are often overweight or obesity, lack of exercise, poor nutrition, too much alcohol, smoking and constant stress. Losing weight is not easy, but it is one of the most effective ways to reduce it. Anyone who gives a jerk and consistently tackles losing weight often experiences success in several ways: Because, for example, the diet develops a certain team sport or healthy cooking with friends for a new hobby, not only do the kilos tumble more easily, but also the joie de vivre.
Drink alcohol in moderation
Above a certain amount, alcohol can help increase blood pressure levels. Those affected should therefore only rarely, and if so, only use beer, wine or other alcoholic beverages in moderation. From the point of view of the German Hypertension League, “up to 30 g alcohol” is considered “blood pressure neutral” in men, which corresponds to about two glasses of wine or beer a day. Women should not consume more than 20 grams of alcohol a day, as they are usually lighter in weight and break down alcohol more slowly.
Moderate enjoyment is worthwhile in two ways: Because many alcoholic beverages increase appetite and lead to cravings, which in turn favors excess weight - one of the main risk factors for hypertension.
Change your own way of dealing with stress
Many hypertensives are stressed and tense. Relaxation techniques are the means of choice here. Calmness and serenity contribute to the fact that stress can be processed better, the heart is no longer so stressed and thus the blood pressure improves.
Many health insurance companies, but also the adult education centers, offer various exercises and procedures for reducing stress, such as Qi Gong, autogenic training or yoga. A walk in the fresh air or an artistic activity, such as painting or handicrafts, can also lower the stress level and bring some lightness into life.
Effective herbs for hypertension
Herbs that are suitable as home remedies include hawthorn flowers, lemon balm leaves, mistletoe, horsetail herb and valerian root. The following tea mixture is suitable for sufferers who are often stressed and have high blood pressure:
Medicinal herbal tea with valerian3 parts hawthorn flowers,
2 parts lemon balm leaves
5 parts valerian root and
5 parts of mistletoe are mixed in the pharmacy.
A teaspoon of the mixture is poured with a quarter liter of boiling water and strained after seven to eight minutes. Drink one cup of the herbal tea each morning and evening.
Alternatively, an infusion with hawthorn flowers can be very beneficial, as these can help with nervous tension, stress and anxiety. Mistletoe, which has been recommended by naturopaths for a while to normalize slightly elevated values, is a good addition.
Blood pressure tea with mistletoe2 parts hawthorn flowers,
2 parts of horsetail herb and
4 parts of mistletoe as a mixture from the pharmacy.
The preparation corresponds to the tea blend mentioned above.
Other effective medicinal plants are lavender and passion flower. These two herbs can also be used as tea. Enriched with valerian and lemon balm, they create a completely relaxing mixture.
Olive leaves are helpful and slightly lower blood pressure. One to two teaspoons are poured with a quarter liter of boiling water and strained after ten to 15 minutes. Drink three cups a day in small sips.
It applies to all the types of tea mentioned that they must not be drunk continuously for longer than a maximum of six weeks. After that, take a break or change the tea type or blend.
Kneipp applications
Applications in the field of hydrotherapy according to Sebastian Kneipp are simple home remedies that are quite helpful for mild high blood pressure. A well-tried example is the rising arm bath: fill the sink with 35 ° C warm water and bathe your forearms in it. The temperature should rise to 39 ° C within fifteen minutes.
Another option is the alternate showering, which starts with warm water between 36 ° C and 39 ° C. Then the cold pour follows, the water should have a temperature between 10 ° C and 16 ° C. It is important that you always start with the right, that is, far from the heart.
Danger: Full baths are not suitable for hypertensives. These strain the cardiovascular system too much.
Anti-high blood pressure cure with garlic with lemon
Those who want to lower their blood pressure naturally will find an effective home remedy in the proven garlic lemon cure. The cure is also suitable for arteriosclerosis and tinnitus.
That's how it's done:1. 3 -5 organic lemons are washed with hot water and cut into small pieces
2. Add about thirty peeled cloves of garlic and 500 milliliters of water, then the whole is mashed together
3. Add another 500 milliliters of water and heat the mixture to 70 ° C
4. It is then strained through a cloth or a coffee filter, filled into a bottle and stored in the refrigerator.
The cure lasts around 6 weeks. During this time, approximately one shot glass of the garlic-lemon mixture should be drunk daily. Whether before or after a meal is to be decided according to individual preferences.
Important: Those who have a sensitive stomach or generally do not tolerate garlic so well should not use the cure.
Natural help through honey and apple cider vinegar
Honey is not only a good home remedy for a sore throat or cough, but is also recommended for those with high blood pressure. The enzymes and vitamins it contains can help. In ancient Egypt, honey was known as a cure for hypertension many years ago.
Apple cider vinegar is one of the versatile home remedies. It deacidifies, supports the burning of fat, helps with draining and its mention must not be missing even with the natural blood pressure lowerers. A tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in the morning mixed with a glass of still water can help. The potassium contained in it promotes the excretion of table salt.
Nutritional supplements
Black cumin oil is a proven home remedy and is one of the nutritional supplements. A daily intake helps to keep the artery walls elastic and thus do something about the too high values. Black cumin oil can be taken in liquid form or in the form of capsules.
Aromatherapy with essential oils
Essential oils, when used properly, can also help lower blood pressure somewhat. Lavender, marjoram, lemon balm, ylang-ylang and clary sage are particularly suitable for aromatherapy. Regardless of which oil is used, you should always pay attention to purity and quality.
The essential oils are best used in an aroma lamp. Two to three drops are enough to scent a 20 to 25 square meter room. If you are in the same room with a tendency to hypotension (low blood pressure), this procedure should not be used.
Prevent vitamin D deficiency
Various studies have shown that a lack of vitamin D can lead to high blood pressure. This is in its preliminary stage under the skin and is required for cell functions throughout the body and for protection against free radicals.
The precursor is converted into the active form by the sun, as it is needed by the body. To do this, however, humans would have to be exposed to the sun for half an hour every day and, above all, let their forearms shine.
If there is too little sunlight, the vitamin must be added. This is particularly important in the dark months for "couch potatoes" or older people, because many people do not even know that they are not adequately cared for. Ingestion through food is not sufficient, so if there is a vitamin D deficiency in winter it may be necessary to take an appropriate food supplement. However, this should not be taken on your own. It is best to do a blood test beforehand to find the right dose. (sw, nr)
