The organic wholesaler Dennree has launched a recall for the product "Higher Living Green Tea Hemp". The tea apparently contains too much THC. According to the company, "a health impairment cannot be excluded".
Too much THC in green tea
Dennree GmbH is recalling the article "Higher Living Green Tea Hemp" (20-bag pack) with the best before date (best before date) 06.02.2022. "The reason for the recall is an increased THC content," says a message published by the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety on its portal "Lebensmittelwarnung.de".
Product should not be consumed
"If larger amounts of the tea are taken, a health impairment cannot be ruled out," the company writes.
Customers who have purchased this product are requested not to consume it, but to return it to the point of sale where it was purchased.
The purchase amount will be refunded without proof of receipt when the product is presented.
Hemp as a food
Hemp-containing foods have been in vogue for years. "There are primarily foods on the market that contain hemp seeds or the protein or oil obtained from hemp seeds as an ingredient in the products," writes the consumer advice center.
"Hemp products are said to lower cholesterol and prevent cancer, help you lose weight and build muscle, prevent cardiovascular diseases and high blood pressure and strengthen the immune system," explains the Federal Center for Nutrition (BZfE) on its website.
But: "So far there have been very few studies regarding the effects of hemp products on health."
However, it is undisputed that hemp seeds are high in protein and contain all essential amino acids.
“They contain high-quality fatty acids: omega-6 fatty acids and omega-3 fatty acids are in a 3: 1 ratio. This is a very favorable ratio for the body, ”says the BZfE.
Hemp seeds are also rich in vitamins E, B1, B2 and B6. The content of magnesium, calcium, phosphorus and iron is also high. Hemp seeds and oil contain almost 500 kilocalories per 100 grams.
According to the experts, hemp protein is easily digestible and easy to use and can be seen as a full substitute for animal protein. (ad)
